The Powell Pioneers American Legion baseball program won three out of five games at the Mike Devereaux tournament in Casper over the weekend. The team also swept a conference doubleheader at home against Riverton to move to 26-15 overall and 8-0 in league play this season.

Silcox’s 94-point bull ride sets record
The 2011 Cody Stampede rodeo paid out more than $300,000 and saw an arena-record bull ride. Wesley Silcox climbed aboard RMEF Bugle and brought the crowd to its feet with a 94-point ride.
Team and tie-down roper Paul David Tierney was named the all-around cowboy award recipient and pocketed an extra $2,757 as a result.

The Powell Pioneers American Legion baseball team improved to 21-13 overall and 6-0 in conference play after winning four of five games last week. The Pioneers swept doubleheaders at Riverton and Douglas, but were tripped up by Rock Springs.
Twin Cities tournament comes to town
Little League event in its second season
The second annual Twin City All Star Little League baseball tournament will take place Friday and Saturday. The event, co-hosted by Powell and Cody, will see competition in both Majors (12-and-under) and Minors (10-and-under) age divisions.

After cutting his teeth as a member of the Northwest College rodeo team, Shane Proctor returned to Cody on Thursday night to capture the title in the Cody/Yellowstone stop of the Xtreme Bulls Tour. Proctor, who makes his home in Grand Coulee, Wash., turned in the highest scoring ride in the first round with an 87. To that, he added a 91-point performance on the last ride of the finals to score a comfortable five-point win over the field.

Linton’s Big R captures Minors Division title
A true pitcher’s duel settled the championship of the Minors Division tournament for Powell Little League on Wednesday evening. Linton’s Big R hurler Jeremy Herd went toe-to-toe with Production Machine’s Carson Heinen before watching a late-game rally deliver a 5-4 win to Linton’s Big R.
Herd struck out nine batters before Colin Queen tagged in and delivered three more K’s as the depth of the Red Sox arms proved to be a difference maker.
