Boys’ team second, girls’ team third overall

After weeks of fighting injuries, the Powell High School girls’ cross country program was able to field a full lineup, posting a third-place finish amid chilly conditions at the Powell Golf Club last Friday. The Powell boys finished as the meet runner-up on their home course.

NWC freshman leading nation in kills

For the second time in a month, Northwest College freshman Ana Jakovljevic has been named the NJCAA national player of the week in Division I volleyball. The award came in a week where Jakovljevic turned in a trio of performances that featured more than 20 kills, including a season-high 34 kills in a five-game Trapper victory at Casper College.

Powell cruises to 63-7 road win over Worland

The No. 1-ranked Powell Panthers shook off the first cold weather of the high school football season to blast Worland by a 63-7 final count on Friday night. It marked the second time this season the Panthers have hung 60-plus points on an opponent and the second time the team has triggered a running clock in the second half.

Wins at Sheridan, Casper lift volleyball to top of standings

The Northwest College volleyball team took over the top spot in Region IX North volleyball play over the weekend with wins at Sheridan College and Casper College. The victories improve the Trappers to 15-10 overall and 6-1 in regional play entering the season’s final month.

Win over No. 2 not enough for unanimity

A 13-0 shutout of No.2 Star Valley was more than enough to keep the Powell Panthers firmly entrenched as the No. 1 team in Wyoming 3A football, according to the latest Wyopreps coaches and media poll. It wasn’t enough to convince all of the state’s voters, however.

State title his first

Powell resident Tim Schoessler captured the Wyoming state chess title in late September in Casper, sweeping his three opponents across the board on his way to victory. The state title was the first for Schoessler, who made his first appearance in the championship event at the age of 16.

No. 1 Powell shuts out No. 2 Star Valley

The Powell Panthers overcame a week-long buildup, the many potential distractions of homecoming week and an hour-long lightning delay that postponed the highly anticipated kickoff between No. 1 Powell and No. 2 Star Valley. In the end, none of it mattered as the Panther defense threw another shutout in a 13-0 Powell win.

NWC dominates play in 4-0 whitewash of Western Wyoming

The Northwest College women’s soccer team concluded the home portion of its 2012 schedule last Wednesday with a 4-0 shutout victory over Western Wyoming. The Trappers held the visiting team without a shot on goal while running their record to 7-4 overall this season and 3-2 in Region IX play.

No. 1 Powell, No. 2 Star Valley set to collide

As far as regular-season football goes, it’s hard to imagine a scenario greater than the one that will confront the Panthers this Friday night. Home field. Homecoming. And the last remaining unbeaten 3A teams in the state set to duke it out at Panther Stadium.

Powell forces running clock in second half

An anticipated clash between the two top rushing defenses in Class 3A football never materialized on Friday as the No. 1 Powell Panthers ran silly over the Jackson Broncs in a 63-6 beatdown. The win improves Powell to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in 3A West conference play.
