The Powell Pioneers found production up and down the lineup over the weekend, going undefeated in four tournament games in Cody. The Pioneers scored wins over the Halos and Angels out of Billings, as well as wins over Cody and Lovell.

“We got production from everyone this weekend,” said Pioneer coach Mike Jameson, whose team now sports a 10-8 record, the first time all season the Pioneers have been above the .500 mark.

Powell starts conference play 2-0

The Powell Pioneers American Legion baseball team snapped a three-game skid on Tuesday night with a 10-1, 13-4 sweep of neighboring Lovell. The wins also give the Pioneers a 2-0 start to Northwest conference play.

NWC women in pursuit of national title

In a season in which they’ve already grabbed some glory for themselves, the Northwest College women are heading down to Casper in pursuit of an even bigger prize.

The Powell Babe Ruth program was recently recognized for celebrating its 50th anniversary with a plaque from the national Babe Ruth organization. The honor commemorates a half-century of teaching the sport of baseball to area youth.

Honor given annually to Wyoming’s top athletes of the year

Powell High School graduate Josh Cragoe was named one of five finalists for the 2012 Milward Simpson Athlete of the Year Award. The honor is given annually to the top male and female senior athletes in the state of Wyoming.

Just one win to show for four games

The Powell Pioneers demonstrated some improvement over the weekend but had little to show for the cause after winning just one of four games played. The Pioneers split with the Billings Halos, winning 8-5 and losing 7-5 on Friday.

Memorial Day tournament a washout

The Powell Pioneers split an impromptu Memorial Day doubleheader against the Billings Cardinals on Monday. The games were a hasty addition to the schedule following the cancellation of the three-day Billings Memorial Day tournament.

Soccer, track teams recognize players

The final batch of sports awards for the 2011-2012 academic calendar were bestowed this past week as the Powell High School soccer and track teams each held their end-of-the-season programs.

Joins volleyball, basketball rosters in Aberdeen, S.D.

Recent Powell High School graduate Kendra Ostrom will compete in volleyball and women’s basketball for Presentation College, according to that institution’s sports information department. Presentation College is an NCAA Division III-affiliated school located in Aberdeen, S.D.

Hanlin named coach of the year in 3A West

Four members of Powell High School’s soccer teams were honored with all-conference recognition. Eight more were named to the second team or honorable mention rolls while Panther girls’ head coach Brett Hanlin was honored with coach of the year status by his peers in the 3A West conference.
