Panthers hoard votes in latest rankings
It’s taken three weeks, but the Powell Panthers have made believers of the entire state. Well, maybe not, but they have at least convinced all those casting ballots in the Wyopreps coaches and media Class 3A football poll.
Having worked in a university public relations office a decade ago before making my return to the sports scene, I’m all too familiar with the fact that those in higher education are always looking for all the positive publicity they can generate. Northwest College accomplished that feat in spades this past week.
Powell special teams return another kickoff for score in friday night victory
It stayed close for a quarter, but after that the floodgates opened as the No. 1 Powell Panthers cruised to a 49-7 victory over Torrington in Wyoming 3A football action on Friday night. The win sends the Panthers into the start of conference play with a 3-0 record.
Soccer teams stumble against LCCC
The Northwest College soccer teams split Region IX games at Trapper Field over the weekend. Both the NWC men’s and women’s teams scored 4-1 victories over Western Nebraska on Friday. Both teams lost by identical 3-1 counts to Laramie County Community College on Saturday.
Bloomer triggers late rally for Northwest
For the longest time, it didn’t look like Tuesday night was Nicolette Bloomer’s night. Through three games, the Bakersfield, Calif., freshman carried a negative hitting percentage against No. 16 Casper College, meaning she’d amassed more errors than successful hits.
Women look for return to CNFR
College rodeo season got off to a wild start over the weekend in Cody with Northwest College hosting the first two events of the 10-rodeo calendar in the Big Sky Region. Once the dust settled, Northwest was sitting in third place in the region’s men’s standings and in second place in the women’s standings.
PHS a near unanimous choice
As expected, the Powell Panthers held firm to their No. 1 ranking in Class 3A following last week’s 41-14 rout of then-No. 3 Buffalo. Powell picked up 25 of a possible 26 first-place votes in this week’s Wyopreps coaches’ and media rankings.
Teams sweep weekend opponents
Northwest College opened the home portion of its 2012 soccer schedule sporting a new scoreboard in the northwest corner of Trapper Field. They spent the remainder of the weekend ensuring that it got a workout.
