Powell rarely challenged in 4-1 victory

The Powell Panthers may have fallen from this week’s girls’ soccer rankings, but performances like Tuesday’s 4-1 victory at Worland could have them basking among the state’s top five soon. The Panthers controlled play for virtually the entire 80 minutes to improve to 4-1-1 this season.

Late first-half surge sends Powell to 6-0 loss Tuesday

Fourth-ranked Worland scored three goals in a 2:30 stretch of the late first half to transform what appeared to be an evenly-matched soccer game into a 6-0 blowout. The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-4 overall and an 0-1 beginning to Northwest quadrant play.

PHS Girls’ soccer Team defeated in snow, wind at Buffalo

The fifth-ranked Powell High School girls’ soccer team split chilly weekend games, falling 3-0 at Buffalo and picking up a 2-1 victory in the team’s home opener on Saturday against Pinedale. The results brought the Panthers to a 3-1-1 season record this spring.

Panther boys top Pinedale in Overtime

Powell’s game on Saturday with Pinedale was barely 20 minutes old when head coach Travis Rapp made an observation.

“I turned to my assistant coach and said we needed to work on finishing this week in practice,” Rapp recalled.

Panther track set to open season

The Powell High School track teams are scheduled to open the 2013 track and field season this Saturday in Cody. While young, the team should be a force to be contended with in 3A track once again, especially on the boys’ side where the Panthers could feature the state’s top weight unit.

Boys receive votes as well

The Powell Panthers are ranked fifth in the first girls’ soccer poll of the year. The Panthers were named on six of the 11 ballots submitted and begin the year at No. 5 according to the Wyopreps coaches and media poll.

We have arrived, again, at that point of the year where everyone stares bleary eyed at statistics, throws darts at a wall, flips a coin or otherwise employs their method of preference to fill in all those little lines on the NCAA tournament bracket for the sake of bragging rights amongst their friends. Considering all the time some folks spend, it’s a darn good thing nobody actually tries to make money off the deal or whole offices might shut down.

Team begins year 2-0-1 record

One year ago, the Powell High School girls’ soccer team had to withdraw from its season-opening jamboree due to a lack of players. This season, the Panthers looked in mid-season form in many ways as they opened play.

Soccer team has 1-2 season start

Soccer season got off to a bumpy start for the Powell High School boys’ team over the weekend. The team was clobbered 8-2 by Star Valley in its opening game of the season and also fell by a 1-0 count to Pinedale in an abbreviated 40-minute contest.

Hildebrand, McArthur, Smith honored

Three members of Powell High School’s basketball programs were named to the all-state teams announced by the Wyoming Coaches Association earlier this week. Seniors Marshall McArthur and Alyssa Hildebrand and sophomore Kalei Smith were each named to the all-state roster.
