Search underway for missing hiker

Searchers in Park County are continuing to look for a 32-year-old Billings man who hasn't returned from a Saturday hike in the Clarks Fork Canyon area.

Jason Shefelbine was last seen Saturday, Oct. 1st, around 2 p.m. northwest of Antelope Mountain between the Chief Joseph Highway (Wyo. 296) and the Clarks Fork River. He was wearing shorts, a t-shirt, a black day pack and was carrying a fishing pole.

Anyone with information about Shefelbine is encouraged to contact the Park County Sheriff’s Office at 307-527-8700.

Recent limits to stay in place for coming season

Yellowstone National Park officials say the public had valid criticisms of its proposed plan for winter use in the park, and they’re taking more time to address those flaws in the plan.

“The public comment period did exactly what we hope a public comment period would do in a process like this,” Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk said in a conference call with reporters last week.

Boys fourth at state tennis

For the first time in years, the Powell High School boys tennis team broke through for a fourth-place finish and a trophy at the state tournament in Gillette.

“We had an awesome state meet, especially on the boys side,” said PHS coach Ray Bieber, adding that many of the girls improved on their play from regionals.

Powell police chief retiring

After 30 years of service to the city of Powell, Police Chief Tim Feathers is calling it a career.

Feathers formally submitted his retirement notice to the city on Thursday. It will be effective Dec. 31.

Tennis squads head to state

When most high school athletes gather for a state tournament, they’re sorted into different classes based on their cities’ population — 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A.

Not so in tennis, where everyone is lumped into one egalitarian fracas.

Shutting down parts of the Meeteetse, Clark and Powell landfills is going to be a multimillion dollar expense and Park County commissioners are hoping to get some help from the state of Wyoming.

The boys golf team picked an excellent time to win their first tournament of the season, seizing the Class 3A State title for the first time in Powell High School history.

The Panthers played some of their best golf on Saturday to turn a five-shot deficit into a 12-shot victory at Rawlins’ Rochelle Ranch Golf Course on Saturday.

Powell High School’s Marshall McArthur and Justin Lynn avenged two earlier losses to Cody to win the weekend’s North Region Tennis tournament at No. 2 doubles.
