Voter turnout high amid some problems

14,706 residents cast ballots

Fewer Park County residents turned out to vote in Tuesday’s general election than did in the last presidential election, but turnout was still relatively high.

Unofficial results from the Park County Clerk Jerri Torczon’s office show that 14,706 residents cast ballots — many of them voting by absentee prior to the election.

The Park County Clerk's Office has dealt with a couple election problems so far today.

Voters who cast their ballots early this morning likely noticed their ballots were being placed in an emergency bin instead of being placed in the vote-counting machines themselves.

Voting day

So-called swing state voters likely will steal the national spotlight in today’s (Tuesday) race for the U.S. presidency, but here in Park County, it’s solely up to local voters to pick county commissioners, school and college board members, city council members and the sales tax rate for the next four years.

A 39-year-old man charged with kidnapping and assaulting a pre-adolescent Cody girl confessed to the crime after his arrest, according to allegations from Montana police contained in court records.

A trio of candidates — Republicans Bucky Hall and Lee Livingston and independent Pat Slater — are bidding for two seats on the Park County Commission in Tuesday’s general election.
