Finish 19-8

It didn’t end the way the Lady Panthers had hoped, but Powell High School head coach Scott McKenzie is proud of the basketball team’s 19-8 season.

“Seventeen weeks is a long journey, and I thought we had a fantastic journey this season,” McKenzie said.

Court documents related to Saturday’s murders in Clark gave a clearer outline of what happened, but they didn’t make the incident any easier to comprehend.

Cody teens Tanner Vanpelt, 18, and Stephen Hammer, 19, were each charged on Tuesday with 11 felony counts that include first-degree murder, armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Hammer is alleged to have played a lesser role than Vanpelt.

After persevering in a couple of nail-biters, the Powell High School girls’ basketball team delivered one of their best performances of the season to beat Lander 56-46 and claim third place in the Class 3A West regional tournament.

A 40-year-old woman, her 69-year-old father and 70-year-old mother were murdered at their Clark home at midday Saturday, police say.

Two Cody teens have each been charged with 11 criminal counts in connection with the case. They made their first court appearance in Park County's Circuit Court Tuesday morning, where Judge Bruce Waters ordered them held without bail pending further proceedings.

Sheriff calls killings "nothing short of cold-blooded murder"

Two young Cody men are in custody after an apparent triple homicide in Clark that occurred at around 11 a.m. Saturday at a home on Big View Road.

Park County Sheriff Scott Steward announced the homicides and arrests in a Saturday afternoon news release.

"There are no other suspects being sought at this time in connection to the case," Steward said.

More than 4,400 books were ruined and a school day canceled after a sprinkler system erroneously flooded a portion of the Meeteetse library on Sunday afternoon.

The damage at the Park County-run library — located inside the Meeteetse school — was generally limited to a section containing Western novels and non-fiction books, along with a nearby school classroom (see photos at the bottom of this article).

Powell High School’s girls basketball team will have a bit of an unusual edge in this weekend’s Class 3A West regional tournament: they’ll be playing in their own gym.

For the first time since 2005, Powell is hosting the conference tournament.

Police say guns were stolen from a Cody store during a break-in early this (Tuesday) morning.

A staunchly conservative Powell audience urged U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., to fight back harder against President Barack Obama’s administration and for conservative causes.

With just days remaining before a March 1 deadline for broad, automatic spending cuts, former Sen. Alan Simpson of Cody is back in the national spotlight, offering a new deficit-reduction plan he sees as a possible compromise for Democrats and Republicans.
