Four days of rehearsing and 301 students from all over the state will debut in the Cody Stampede Parade this week as the Wyoming All State Marching Band.

Maybe it isn’t Guinness world record stuff yet, but it’s pretty darn unique.

That’s an opinion registered by throngs of enthusiastic returnees to the 100th anniversary reunion of the Powell High School Alumni Association June 26-27. Alums were back in number to be part of the milestone 100th consecutive annual reunion and because this may be the last of the every-year gatherings.

The 100th annual Powell High School Alumni Association reunion is in the books.

Now the question begs an answer: Will there be a 101st?

That will be the question before the house July 16 when the alumni board meets at 7 p.m. at the Powell Eagle’s Club.

Opponents of establishing a lottery in Wyoming worried that the lottery would prey on the poor and create a growing number of problem gamblers.

50-year PHS class streaked its way into alumni legend

Their hair is graying and thinning, but for members of the Powell High School Class of 1965, nothing can dim their place in the lore of PHS reunion history.

It’s hard to find fault with a marvelous funding partnership between the State of Wyoming and the University of Wyoming that has accomplished such wondrous capital facility projects on campus in the last dozen years.

The 100th will be done with full fanfare.

That’s the word from the planning committee of the Powell High School Alumni Association, which has been meeting for months to make ready for the centennial anniversary alumni weekend on June 26-27.

A new board will carry forward shareholder will to "Save the Merc."

Shareholders of Powell Mercantile, Inc. voted Thursday night to try to find a niche to keep the store going, but they will do it with a new board of directors in charge. The present board members said they would step aside in favor of new blood.

New members of the Wyoming Legislature, including Rep.-elect Dan Laursen of Powell, will be introduced to the conduct of the legislative process during a three-day orientation for new legislators  this week in Cheyenne.

Charlotte Bell of Ogden, Utah, has gotten the message.

If the PHS Alumni Association is going to make its 100th anniversary all-class reunion its last in 2015, the 1958 graduate of Powell High School wants to be there. Bell is rallying her class to come together in what would be a 57-year reunion — not a year that would normally be cause for celebration.
