The last part of a school year is a stressful time for students, teachers and administrators at any college. This year, that’s particularly true at Northwest College, where recent projections indicate a $2.3 million shortfall in revenue for the 2016-17 school year.

Big Bertha, Bonkers, Dusty and Chicken Little became city chicks last fall.

“When we first got them, they were pretty small,” said Krista Buhler, who, along with her fiancé, Chancey Stebner, owns the chickens and houses them in the couple’s backyard on Bent Street.

Tuition to increase $6 per credit hour

Northwest College leaders were braced for reductions in state and local funding for the coming year, but the actual revenue shortfall is worse than their previously envisioned worst-case scenario.

Raising student fees at Northwest College or decreasing the number of tuition-free credit-hours for full-time students are among measures being considered for raising revenue at the college.

The 2016 Wyoming Legislature marked the halfway point earlier this week. Tuesday was the crossover period for the House and Senate, meaning that any legislation that had not passed third reading in its house of origin is dead.
