A new chief executive officer will take the helm at Powell Valley Healthcare on Feb. 27.

William Patten Jr. accepted the position late last week.

Patten is employed by HealthTech Management Services Inc., which provides management services for Powell Valley Healthcare.

A report shows several goals set in the 2008-11 strategic plan for Northwest College were achieved — some many times over — while others still need work.

NWC President Paul Prestwich outlined the final report on the three-year strategic plan during the December meeting of the NWC Board of Trustees.

The year 2011 began on a hopeful note for Powell Valley Healthcare when Paul Cardwell interviewed a second time to fill the vacant chief executive officer position and, also for a second time, was offered the job.

Cardwell initially accepted the position in fall 2010, then in November 2010 he said he wouldn’t be coming after all.

After a year and a half of research, deliberation and delay, the Powell Valley Healthcare board on Wednesday unanimously approved the purchase of a new electronic medical records system.

Emotions calmer this week

An email firestorm swirled through the Northwest College campus last week after the NWC Student Senate voted not to waive a service requirement for a funding request by the NWC Veterans Group.

Although Northwest College officials were complying with Gov. Matt Mead’s request to consider where budget cuts might be made, it appears no cuts will be necessary.

“The governor’s budget came out yesterday, and it doesn’t look like we’ll need to enact budget cuts,” NWC President Paul Prestwich said on Friday.

Three candidates will interview this week for the position of chief executive officer at Powell Valley Healthcare.

A selection committee will interview two of the candidates today (Thursday), and the third on Friday, said Mike Lieb, interim CEO at Powell Valley Healthcare.

A 17.5 acre equestrian center and rodeo arena east of Cody will become property of Northwest College, following the NWC board’s approval for the purchase at its meeting Monday.

Businesses, states and local governments would benefit

The Marketplace Fairness Act, a bill introduced into the U.S. Senate last week, might be the answer states have been looking for to collecting sales taxes on goods sold over the Internet.

$246,000 of $600,000 goal already raised

A drive is under way to raise $600,000 to fund a local economic development organization for three years through the Powell Economic Partnership Inc.
