Wyoming Senior Olympics returns to Cody in February

You may not consider yourself ready for a competition that has Olympics in the title. You also may not consider yourself a senior.

In the pages of this newspaper each week, we strive to tell the stories of people who live here: from their births to deaths and everything in between.

Unfortunately, too often, local lives are disrupted — or ended — because of alcohol and drug abuse.

At a time of year when some sing of peace on earth, Powell Troop Support sends goodwill to those in war zones.

The group continued its Christmas tradition of sending care packages — a grand total of 171 boxes — to local troops stationed overseas.

When Kyle Rohrer walked into the Powell Middle School gym Wednesday afternoon, he didn’t expect to see hundreds of students cheering for him.

Powell High School theatre students finished their weekend with a dramatic win, bringing home the 3A championship from the State Drama Competition in Laramie.

Amid the busyness of preparing for their annual Christmas program last week, Parkside Elementary staff and students received exciting news: Parkside is one of only about 100 schools in the country to be named a 2015 National Title I Distinguished School.

“There’s nothing quite like the first snow of the season to fill your eyes with wonder,” said photographer Sandy Sisti of Wapiti.

As snow gently fell in Yellowstone National Park this autumn, Sisti photographed a grizzly cub surveying the scene — a bear fittingly known by wildlife photographers as “Snow.”

Thumbs up to the Country Christmas events planned this weekend. Expect to see strolling carolers, lighted parade floats, decorated homes, performances by local kids and Santa Claus arriving on an antique fire truck during the festive holiday weekend.
