Parkside Elementary School’s annual marathon drew 190 students, which is 86 percent of the school’s student population.

By connecting with students and investing in each one, Shannon Blackmore gives hope to teens at the Shoshone Learning Center.

Over the course of the school year, Southside Elementary School students ran 22,443 laps for their annual marathon, which equals 4,489 miles.

Community support needed on Main Street

A longtime Powell clothing store is shutting down this week, marking its final days as a downtown business.

This year’s Westside Elementary School marathon saw 268 students qualified for the event — an increase from last year’s 220 students.

Two members of the Powell school board are planning to resign this month.

Lisa Barrus, who serves as the board’s clerk, decided to seek employment with Park County School District No. 1, so she is leaving the board. Jason Wardell, who serves as the board’s treasurer, is also resigning because his employer is transferring him out of the state, said Greg Borcher, chairman of the Park County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees.

Soon after Krysta Hubbard started at Westside last year, she climbed to the very top of the playground equipment — alarming her teachers, who knew she couldn’t see.

The Rocky Mountain Manor and local Boys & Girls Club have helped hundreds of Powell residents over the decades — and now it’s up to the community to help these nonprofit organizations.
