Juanita Alta Mooers was born on July 28, 1928, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Her family moved to west Texas before her first birthday; she was raised in the small town of Monahans, Texas. Her parents were William and Nora (Reese) McKinzie, who had two other daughters and three sons.

Larry William Paulsen, of Powell, died Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Powell Valley Healthcare. He was 76.


Ronald Gene Blakesley passed away at home on March 1, 2018, after four years of quarreling and fighting with multiple myeloma.

James Owens Coorough, of Powell, died Monday, April 2, 2018, in Cody. He was 72.

Barbara Irene Smalley, 93, died March 23, 2018, at the New Horizons Care Center in Lovell.

The snow and cold has forced the cancellation of Saturday's L.A. Kohnke Invitational track meet at Powell High School.

UPDATE: The Montana State University Billings baseball team will not be playing Cowley or anywhere else this weekend; thanks to the lousy weather, the team's four-game series with conference rival Western Oregon University has been canceled.

The Powell Wrestling Club hosted its annual 3-Style Tournament March 9-10, welcoming 12 teams to Powell High School for the event. Competing in three separate styles, the Powell team finished seventh in Folkstyle, fifth in Greco and fifth in Freestyle.
