Powell High School seniors Brooks Asher and Max Gallagher were awarded All-State honors for their performances on the football field for the 2017 season.

The Northwest College Lady Trappers basketball team won both its games at the First Bank of Wyoming Shootout on Friday and Saturday, thumping Williston State College 88-32 and winning over Eastern Wyoming College 80-72.

Safarov, Anau claim championship titles

The Northwest College wrestling team hosted the NWC Open on Sunday, with six teams on campus to compete. Trappers Nodir Safarov and Lisiate Anau both claimed championship titles, with Jeffrey Oakes placing second and Chayce Loveless taking third.

Powell High School’s junior varsity volleyball team ended the season undefeated in the conference. The team also only lost one game all season, with one game ending in a tie at a tournament for an overall record of 27-1-1.

The Northwest College women’s basketball team officially began their season in Cheyenne last week, facing Laramie County Community College and leaving with a 72-63 win. The team traveled to Rock Springs that evening to play in the Western Wyoming Community College Classic against Snow College and Eastern Wyoming College. The Lady Trappers came up on the losing end of both games, 76-61 and 91-80, respectively.

Northwest College’s wrestling team took eighth place among 20 teams at Saturday’s Cowboy Open in Laramie.

Future looks bright for PHS swim program

The Powell High School girls’ swim team took third at the 3A State Swim and Dive Championships in Gillette over the weekend, with swimmers placing in the top six in seven individual events and two relays.

Rezende, Saric and Pittman earn All-Conference honors

The Northwest College volleyball team took third in the NJCAA Region IX North Tournament in Sheridan over the weekend, playing 17 sets in four games and going 2-2 to end its year. The two wins were over Eastern Wyoming College and Casper College and the two losses came to Laramie County Community College and Sheridan College.

When one thinks of the sport of swimming, chances are the words biomechanics, psychology and physiology are not what typically comes to mind. But for Powell High School swim coach Bob Smartt, that is exactly what comes to mind first.
