Panther boys ranked fifth

Posted

The Powell Panthers found a home in the latest Wyopreps’ coaches and media boys’ soccer poll. After knocking off a ranked Star Valley team last Saturday, Powell debuts in the rankings as the No. 5 team in Class 3A this week.

Head coach Travis Rapp’s team received votes from four of the seven voters in this week’s poll. The Panthers garnered one fourth-place vote and three fifth-place votes to secure the No. 5 position.

Jackson grabbed the top spot in this week’s poll, earning four of the seven first-place votes. Buffalo was second, receiving two first-place votes while Worland held steady at No. 3 after receiving the final first-place vote.

All three schools were ranked in the top three on all seven ballots received. Buffalo and Jackson traded the No. 1 and No. 2 spots from the previous week’s poll.

Lander earned the No. 4 spot in this week’s poll. The Tigers play host to Powell next week.

Cody and Star Valley also received votes in this week’s poll.

On the girls’ side, the Panthers received votes for the first time this season following a 1-0 victory over then-No. 2 Star Valley on Saturday. Powell’s girls were the No. 5 choice of two of the eight voters in this week’s girls’ poll.

That wasn’t enough to lift the Panthers into the top five, but made the team the first one out of the rankings this week.

Cody grabbed six of the eight first-place votes in this week’s poll to maintain its hold on the No. 1 position. Buffalo grabbed the other two first-place votes and moved up to take over the No. 2 position.

There is a three-way tie for third place in this week’s poll. Lander, Jackson and Star Valley all received an equal number of points and share third place this week.
