Trio named for scholar-athlete honors
Heny, Fink also will be recognized
Powell High School seniors Olie Olson, Josh Cragoe and Cooper Wise were among 72 scholar-athlete nominations received by the Wyoming Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. They will now advance for consideration as Wyoming’s top football scholar-athlete.
Players representing 32 Wyoming high schools will be considered for the award. Finalists will be announced later this month with each receiving a commemorative plaque and $1,200 scholarship from the chapter. The 10 finalists — two from each of Wyoming’s football classifications — will be honored at a banquet on Saturday, March 17, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Laramie. University of Wyoming scholar-athlete Clayton Kirven will also be recognized at the event.
The state’s top scholar-athlete will be announced that night and will receive an additional scholarship.
Nine state residents will also be recognized for their respective contributions to fandom, amateur football and achievement in coaching an officiating. Powell will also be recognized among that group.
Myron Heny will be presented with an award for career achievement in football officiating. Powell’s David Fink will be one of two people honored as being one of Wyoming’s greatest high school football fans.
