American Legion all-district team named

Posted

Three members of the Powell Pioneers American Legion baseball team were named to the North all-district baseball team on Monday. Tyler England, Josh Cragoe and Seth Gilmore each were honored with inclusion on the team.

All three also had their names forwarded for consideration for all-state honors. That roster should be announced sometime next week following the conclusion of the state Legion tournament.

England, the only returning 2010 all-state selection on Powell’s roster this summer, entered North district tournament play batting .470 for the summer. England led the Pioneers in stolen bases and runs scored while batting out of the No. 2 hole for Powell for much of the season.

Cragoe spent much of the season behind home plate for the Pioneers. Cragoe was hitting .453 entering district play, ranking second behind England in runs scored and second behind Gilmore in the number of hits. Cragoe also led Powell in ERA during the regular season, allowing just 2.61 runs per nine innings pitched.

Gilmore, playing his first season of Legion baseball for Powell, looked right at home in a Pioneer uniform. Gilmore finished the regular season batting .517. Offensively, he led Powell in average, home runs and runs driven in. Defensively, Gilmore was the team saves leader on the mound while also providing the team with a reliable glove on the left side of the infield.

Powell finished its season with a 31-17 overall record.
