Northwest grad extends lead in world rankings

Call it home arena advantage.

After cutting his teeth as a member of the Northwest College rodeo team, Shane Proctor returned to Cody on Thursday night to capture the title in the Cody/Yellowstone stop of the Xtreme Bulls Tour. Proctor, who makes his home in Grand Coulee, Wash., turned in the highest scoring ride in the first round with an 87. To that, he added a 91-point performance on the last ride of the finals to score a comfortable five-point win over the field.

For his efforts, Proctor walked away from the night with $13,724 from the $50,000 purse that was up for grabs on the night.

Santaquin, Utah, rider Wesley Silcox had the high-point ride of the night, turning in a 91.5 in the finals. That performance vaulted him from fifth after the first run into second place for the night and a $9,306 payday.

Jason McClain, Seth Clause and Corey Navarre were the only other riders from the 40-man field to successfully ride two bulls during the evening.

The Xtreme Bulls tour stop was the kickoff event for a holiday weekend of rodeo action at the Cody Stampede. Due to the holiday publication schedule, results from the 2011 Cody Stampede will appear in a later edition of the Powell Tribune.
