The Powell Majors’ Division All-Stars finished second at a tournament in Worland last week. Over the span of the two-day event, the squad hit .540 as a team.

“The kids played very well,” said Casey Dearcorn of the team’s performance. “They were upbeat and it showed on the baseball field. We had very few errors throughout the whole tournament.”

Powell opened with a 15-0 victory over the Otto Rattlers. Hudson Roling opened the game on the hill, striking out five. He eventually gave way to Jon Moore, who stepped up to complete the shut out.

Tyler Feller scored four times and Ty Dearcorn crossed home plate three times to lead the scoring. Every member of the All-Stars’ roster recorded at least one base hit in the contest.

Powell followed that shutout performance with a 9-1 loss to Riverton. Riverton pitching kept Powell off balance throughout the day as the team recorded just four hits, but struck out nine times.

Dearcorn, Roling, Jon Moore and Nate MaGill accounted for all of Powell’s offense “We got kids on base every inning with a hit or a walk, we just couldn’t bring them around,” said Casey Dearcorn.

Powell’s next game was a rematch with the Otto Rattlers. While the game was closer the second time, Powell still emerged as an 8-5 victor in the contest.

John Stutzman started on the hill, striking out four before handing the ball off to Marshall Wittick. Wittick entered the game with Powell trailing 5-4, but struck out three and held the Rattlers silent on the scoreboard to get the win.

Paige Gann scored twice in the win while going 3-for-3 at the plate. Dearcorn added another 3-for-3 performance in the books while MaGill, Feller and John Stutzman delivered two hits apiece.

The All-Stars advanced to a semifinal showdown against Worland, winning that game by a 12-4 margin.

Feller started and got the win pitching for Powell. Gann was 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring twice. Dearcorn was 3-for-3, delivering two more runs. Feller helped his own cause with a 3-for-4 night at the dish, scoring twice.

With that win, Powell advanced to the championship game and a rematch against Riverton. Once again, the Riverton side proved too tough, defeating Powell by a 16-0 count.

“Riverton, just as they did in the first game, hit everything we threw at them and they found holes all over the field,” said Casey Dearcorn.

Roling, Estaban Bazan and Toby Hooper accounted for the only hits of the game for Powell, as the All-Stars’ bats were once more held in check.

Next up for Powell’s All-Star team will be a July 6 game at Otto to face the Rattlers. The team participates in the Powell-Cody tournament on July 8-9, providing local fans a chance to watch the team perform.
