Northwest Trapper men also announce signing

Powell High School senior Leslie Thronburg will keep her talents in Powell after signing a letter of intent to play basketball with the Northwest College Trappers for the next two seasons. Head coach Janis Beal announced the signing.

“I’m excited to have Leslie joining our team for next season,” said Beal. “I have enjoyed getting to know her and watching her play for the last couple of years. It will be good to get her in a Trapper jersey.”

Thronburg played a significant role in three state tournament appearances for the Panthers, including play on a pair of state runner-up teams. As a senior, she led Powell with 10.9 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She also accounted for 5.1 rebounds nightly for the Panthers.

“Leslie will fit our up-tempo style extremely well with her athleticism,” Beal said regarding what led her to extend a scholarship offer to the Panther senior. “The other thing I liked is how versatile she is. Throughout high school, she played multiple positions and that will help her as she moves to the next level.”

“I’m excited,” Thronburg said of the chance to remain in Powell and play ball. “I really enjoyed attending camp with Coach Beal.”

Thronburg is the first signing announced for the Trappers’ 2011 recruiting class. In all, Beal plans to sign five or six players to scholarship for the upcoming year.

NWC men sign Solarin

The Trapper men’s basketball program announced the signing of Rangeview (Colo.) High School senior Jeffrey Solarin to a letter of intent for the 2011-2012 basketball season. Solarin was named the most valuable player at “The Show,” Colorado’s annual basketball showcase featuring the top 20 players in the state as selected by a media panel.

Solarin was selected for the game after averaging 18.7 points and 14.2 rebounds per contest for Rangeview, which finished 22-4 on the season.

“We’re very excited to get him,” NWC men’s baskeball coach Andy Ward said of the 6-4 forward who exploded as a senior. “He had a very good performance in The Show and a couple days later we were able to sign him.”

Solarin hauled down 20 or more rebounds in three games during his senior year while leading the entire state in that statistical category. In addition to his scoring and rebounding numbers, the versatile forward averaged 2.1 blocked shots per contest.
