Panther boys enter rankings

PHS basketball team makes debut in fifth

After a wild overtime win last Saturday, the Powell High School boys’ basketball team makes its first appearance of the season in the Wyopreps.com 3A basketball poll. The Panthers, who have garnered votes in previous polls, appear as the No. 5 team in this week’s rankings.

The Panthers received 11 fifth-place votes from a panel of 22 coaches and media personnel. Powell, 6-5 overall this season, but 5-0 in 3A West play, is the only member of the West conference to appear in the poll.

Buffalo was the unanimous No. 1 selection among all 22 ballots. They are followed by 3A East members Wheatland, Torrington and Rawlins. Newcastle, Jackson, Douglas, Cody and Lyman all received votes in this week’s poll.

PHS travels to Cody Friday for its only game this week. A win would give the Panthers a two-game lead in the 3A West standings.
