PHS honors athletes

Tribune file photo‘Never let your fears be the boundaries of your dreams' Powell High School athletes were honored Monday at the school's annual athletic awards night.Guest speaker Ron Laird, Wyoming High School Activities Association director and former PHS coach, addressed the gathering, and expressed his appreciation for Powell's quality athletic programs and the community's support of them through the Powell Athletic Roundtable. He complimented PHS athletes for their efforts and challenged them to be role models for their fellow students and younger kids. He closed by encouraging students to dream of success and not be afraid to fail in pursuit of those dreams.

Hannah Pollart and Auston Carter were named PHS senior athletes of the year during the awards ceremony. The Dr. Ray Christensen “Stout Heart” Awards went to Savannah Donarski and Monte Nickles. Kami Cooley and Drayson Bratt were awarded the Gerald Sleep Most Inspirational Athlete Award.

Jessica Curtis and Devin Lynn received the U.S. Army Reserve Scholar/Athlete Award, and Megan Darrrow and Zach Wagner were awarded the U.S. Marines Distinguished Athlete Award.

Six senior male athletes, Carter, Lynn, Nickles, Trent Gillett and Reed Hackworth were awarded bronze medals for earning six or seven sports letters during their PHS careers.

Among the girls, Pollart and Cooley received gold medals for earning nine or more letters. Pollart lettered 11 times and Cooley 10 during their careers.

Girls earning silver medals for lettering seven or eight times were Curtis, Donarski, Darrow, Samantha Baker and Skye Albert. Bronze medalists among the girls were Kristi Mingus, Emily Schwahn, Katie Kipp, Lauren Fagnant and Kayla Ando.
