(Nov. 30, 1931 - Sept. 18, 2008)Vincent Harold Rose, 76, of Powell, Wyoming passed away at his home on September 18, 2008 following a hard fought battle with cancer.He was born November 30, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Harold J. and Emma Lewis Rose. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During this time, Vince also served with the United States Army Signal Corps at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Fort Huachuaca, Arizona, under an ROTC commission.Vince married Lucinda Pitcairn of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on November 5, 1955 and they had three children: David, Andrew, and Susan. The marriage ended in divorce in 1966. Several years later, Vince was remarried to Caroline P. Gaty, and later divorced.Vince's early career involved engineering jobs with several firms in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. Vince moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in the early '70s to work for Dixson Inc., a gauge manufacturer, where he oversaw and developed an export sales division. In 1984, Vince moved to California to pursue another job opportunity, but soon afterward established his own company, HI-Q Technology, Inc., with the goal of designing, manufacturing and selling high quality gauges.In the mid '90s, Vince moved from California to Powell, Wyoming, attracted by a more favorable business climate and a desire to be near his son Andy. With his innovative gauge designs and extensive foreign business contacts, Vince was able to build a healthy and successful business, remaining active in its daily operations until the time of his death. He was particularly proud of having been awarded eight U.S. patents during his career.Vince was an avid outdoorsman, introducing his family to the joys of camping, canoeing, hiking, bicycling, and skiing, instilling in us a sense of adventure and a love for the natural worldDuring his years in Wyoming, Vince was active in local community groups as a member of the Powell Rotary Club and the Powell Tree Board, board member of the Western Design Conference, and trustee of the Yellowstone Art Museum. He was generous in his support of the Northwest College Foundation, providing funds to help the Writers Series, NWC Art Department, SIFE Program, NWC Chorale and others. Vince also provided support to Powell Medical Foundation, Rimrock Opera, and Billings Symphony.Vince was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret, and brother Lawrence. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Brennan of Whitehall Boro, PA, and Charmaine Rose of Concord, NH, and two brothers, Philip Rose of Laughlintown, PA, and Donald Rose of Mars, PA, son and daughter-in-law David and Cindy Rose of Powell, son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Stephanie Rose and grandson Gabriel of Powell, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Steele Wotkyns of Flagstaff, AZ, and grandsons Kyle and Mason Mann of Flagstaff, AZ, and Delaware, OH.We extend thanks and gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, CNAs, clergy, friends, and family who prayed and cared for Vince during his courageous battle with cancer and helped him during his final journey. Dad, we love you and will miss you. God bless you and may you rest in peace.A memorial service will be held on Thursday Oct 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Third Street, Powell, WY. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to Powell Valley Hospice or a charity of choice.
