Heading into tonight's championship round at the College National Finals Rodeo, Northwest College will have three cowboys competing in four events.

To make tonight's (Saturday's) final round, competitors had to place in the top 12 in the preliminary rounds.

NWC sophomore Bubba Boots has made the finals in all three of his events. He sits in fifth place for tie-down roping, 12th in steer wrestling and in sixth place alongside teammate Matthew Williams in team roping. Boots' performances in his three events has him in third place for the all-around title.

The third cowboy to represent the Trappers in the championship round is Jake Davis in bull riding. Davis is entering the event sitting in 11th place with 73 points. Out of the top 12 bull riders, only four rode two out of three bulls.

Powell’s Bryce Bott, who's attending Casper College, also broke into the finals, as he sits in 10th place in tie-down roping.

Of the five cowboys fighting for the all-around, Boots is the only one who will be competing in three event finals.

Marcus Theriot of East Mississippi Community College currently sits in first place in the all-around in two events - team roping and tie-down roping; Theriot only made the finals in tie-down roping.

Cole Frey of McNeese State University is in second place, advancing to the finals in steer wrestling and team roping.

Sitting in fourth place is Brodi Jones of Weber State University. Jones’ two events are tie-down roping and team roping. Jones will be competing in team roping alongside Brody Adams of Dixie State University.

The fifth place cowboy, Colton Campbell of California State University, did not make the finals in either of his events - team roping and tie-down roping.

As a team, NWC enters the day in 28th place with 96.66 points, 223.34 points behind the third place team. The performances today (Saturday) will determine the final team standings.

Of the 27 teams ahead of NWC in the standings heading into the final event, four teams have no competitors in the championship round, eight teams will be represented in only one event, nine teams in two, four teams in three events, two teams in four events and one team is represented in five events.
