PHS track team picks up wins at Lovell invite

Powell High School’s track and field team found plenty of success at the Lovell invitational on Saturday, finishing with three new state qualifiers, 14 first-place finishers and personal bests in 22 of the team’s 34 events.

With rainy weather in the forecast, Powell will not be competing in Meeteetse on Friday.

Powell will host a three-team invitational on Thursday at 3 p.m., with Cody and Lovell facing off with the Panthers. That will coincide with a PHS student council Make-A-Wish fundraiser, with all proceeds from concession sales donated to Make-A-Wish.

Coach Smith said he’s hoping to have the track meet concluded by 6 p.m. so students and spectators can participate in the other activities for the Make-A-Wish fundraiser.

As of press time, the Wyoming Track Classic at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper was still scheduled for Friday. Only top-ranked athletes are invited.
