Northwest Trapper Lauga Gauta has added All-American status to her volleyball résumé.

The sophomore from Garden Grove, California, was named a Division I First Team All-American by the NJCAA this month, after helping lead the Trappers to a Regional championship and a sixth-place finish in the National Division I Tournament.

Gauta, who received Honorable Mention to the 2015 All-American team, was the Trappers’ main scoring threat this past season, finishing with 575 of the teams 1606 kills. She averaged 4.87 kills per set, leading the nation in that category, and her 575 total kills were second in the nation. In addition, she served 64 aces, fifth most in the nation. She also was a big contributor on defense, picking up 325 digs while making 10 solo blocks and assisting on 68 others.

Gauta was named National Player of the Week for her play during an October match against Laramie County Community College. In that match she scored 23 kills and contributed 13 digs.

In her two years with the Trappers, Gauta was named to both the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference and Region IX North All-Conference teams twice, and this season made the Region IX North All-Tournament Team. She was also selected Player of the Year by both the Wyoming Conference and Region IX North. During her two seasons, Gauta totaled 904 kills, 492 digs, 25 solo blocks and 132 block assists.

Gauta joins three other Trappers who received All-American Honors over the past five seasons. Ana Jakovljevic was Second Team All-American in 2012 and First Team in 2013. In 2014 and 2015, Aleksandra Djordjevic was named to the First Team; Teodora Tepavac joined her on the 2015 team.

Jakovljevic was also named Player of the Year in both the Wyoming and Region IX North in 2012-13 as was Djordjevic in 2014-15.

The Trappers’ record over those five years is 134-50. They have won five conference championships and qualified for four consecutive national tournaments.
