PHS volleyball heads to regionals

Panther volleyball went 1-1 in its last two matches of the regular season, being edged by Riverton on Thursday while beating Cody on Saturday.

Both matches were played at home.

The team will travel to Pinedale this weekend for the Class 3A West regional volleyball tournament.

On Thurday night, Powell lost to Riverton in straight sets.

“We played them much better last night than we did in Riverton so all in all it was an improvement,” said Randi Bonander, Powell High School head volleyball coach. “We could have beat them if our passing was more consistent, because it gives our setters and hitters so many more options.”

Riverton snuck past Powell with set scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 27-25.

Aubrie Stenerson and Rachel Bonander each had two ace serves for PHS. Hartly Thorington had seven kills, while Rachel Bonander and Mariah Phister each had five.

The Panthers beat Cody 3-0 on Saturday evening.

“It was a great way to go into regional tounament week,” said coach Bonander. “This when you want everything to come together which is what is happening for us.”

The set scores were 25-18, 23-25 and 26-24.

Aubrie Stenerson had three ace serves, six kills and three digs. Deasia Daugherty and Alli Sommerville each had one ace serve. Rachel Bonander and Phister each had eight kills while Thorington had five kills.
