Having gone through a few ups and downs that are nearing two years, construction on a new, multi-sport court is well underway at Northwest College.
After the tennis courts off Seventh Street were razed for the Yellowstone Building, plans for a new court were made, held off and re-started — partly due to a partially paid for, custom printed sports surface.
With a new administration coming in during the midst of it, delays were inevitable as things were figured out, and eventually the go-ahead was given and the original plan began.
“The Board of Trustees approved the multi-purpose sport court that can accommodate tennis, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and potentially ice skating. The two concrete table tennis tables for outdoor ping pong will be located on the east side of the sportcourts,” NWC Facilities Director Dave Plute said. “The courts and the sidewalk to the courts will be lit and security lighting is also included.”
Thus far, 300-square yards of concrete have been poured and fencing around the courts is up, but there is plenty more to go.
“The sport court surface, light poles, fixtures and controls, and site restoration remain,” Plute said. “The original schedule has substantial completion for this fall.”
