Earlybird gets season started

The tournament season at the Powell Golf Club teed off with the Earlybird Tournament on Saturday, which played host to 14 teams, totaling 56 players.

“It was a cool day with a wonderful turnout,” PGA Pro Chris Jones said.

The teams worked through windy conditions and the final results were tightly packed with the team of Clark Jeffs, Adam Aviles, Nate Soderberg and Adam Soderberg coming in with a 126 for first-place honors.

Two teams had cards of 130, but after a match of cards, Dick Fisher, Tracy Copenhaver, Brock Frates and Steve Williams got the nod for second place with Marc Saylor, Cecil Baldes, Gary Ladd and Bill Hendricks settling for third.

Mike Bohlman, Greg Toland, Ron Rickert and Dave DeBock were just one more back, carding a 131, to finish fourth on the day.

For closest to the pin, Bohlman hit to within 15 feet, 2 inches from No. 8, Hendricks to 3 feet, 10 inches from No. 17 and Nathan Spitzer and Williams each were just 3 feet, 9 inches from No.’s 4 and 15, respectively.

In the longest drive contest, Dick Fisher knocked his drive the farthest on No. 6, Kevin Lineback had the deepest smash on No. 9, Pat Day had the long ball on No. 16 and Ladd went the distance on No. 18.
