In the waters of Wyoming athletics, it was the year of Amanda Tracy.
The modest Powell High School senior would deflect the glory to her coaches and teammates, but there’s no denying what Tracy accomplished throughout her prep swim career, which culminated with two individual state titles and multiple awards on Oct. 29.
Tracy helped the Panthers to a fourth-place finish at the state meet with wins in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard free.
Her efforts earned her a rare double-dipping of hardware — the Athlete of the Meet and Athlete of the Year honors.
Tracy wrapped up her stellar four-year run at PHS with four individual state titles, back-to-back runner-up finishes at state, and three school records. Tracy owns the top spot in the 100-yard back (1:01.61), 500-yard free (5:31.36) and 100-yard free (54.28), the latter of which won her a state title this year.
“She’s a hard worker, really humble. Here’s a kid who’s one of the fastest in the state, but if you didn’t go to a swim meet and watch her swim, you wouldn’t know it,” PHS head coach Luke Robertson said following Tracy’s triumphs at state. “I’m sure in the halls of Powell High School, she doesn’t walk around like she’s a state champion.”
But she is, in 2015 and forever.
