Less than four months after Powell High School football won its third consecutive state title, the Panther wrestling team matched that accolade with its own back-to-back-to-back performance.
Behind five individual Class 3A state champions, PHS again reigned supreme atop the team standings of the state tournament in Casper on March 1. Then-senior Zach Thompson, juniors Riley Stringer and Kye Catlin and sophomores Chance Karst and Nic Urbach wrestled their way to championships as the Panthers collected 244.5 team points for a landslide victory over runner-up Douglas (201).
Head coach Nate Urbach later said: “It was the best state championship I’ve been a part of.”
