In his junior campaign, Powell High School swimmer Ben Wetzel etched his place in the Panther swimming record book. Wetzel claimed the Class 3A state title in the 500 freestyle on March 1 in Gillette, shattering his school’s record (Jory Turk, 5:07.98 in 1988) with a time of 5:00.47.

Eight months later, current junior Amanda Tracy swam to a state title at the girls state meet, also in Gillette. Tracy posted a personal-best time of 2:18.10 in the 200 IM, clearing the field by more than three seconds to earn the gold.
