NWC Open this Saturday; Nine teams coming to Cabre Gym

Posted

The Northwest College wrestling team hosts its first of two home tournaments this weekend when the NWC Open kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday at Cabre Gym.

The Trappers are expecting big things this season after placing second at the NJCAA National Championships last season. Head coach Jim Zeigler has led his team to 21 straight top-10 national finishes since taking over the program in 1992.

Zeigler will had a tougher challenge this winter however, as the 17 Trappers making up his team are the lowest he’s had during his time in Powell.

Local stores and restaurants should be prepared for a spike in traffic this weekend as nine teams will travel to Powell for the tournament.  Those schools include: Montana State University Northern, North Idaho College, United States AFA Prep, University of Great Falls, University of Wyoming, Chadron State College, Western Wyoming Community College, Utah Valley University and University of Montana Western’s club team.

Following Saturday, NWC will host MSU-Northern at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and WWCC at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19. The Trappers’ only other home tournament of the season, the Apodaca Dual Showdown, will take place Jan. 30-31.

A complete season preview of the upcoming Trapper wrestling campaign will be published in the Powell Tribune next week.
