The gridiron folks will team up with diamond devotees this weekend.

The Powell High School football team and the Panther cheerleaders will take part in this weekend’s co-ed softball tourney that will benefit the family of the late PHS football coach and teacher Jim Stringer.

The Fifth Annual Hitting 4 Hometown Heros tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at the Homesteader Park softball complex. Tourney organizers say 20 or more teams are expected to compete.

Teams are guaranteed at least four games during the two-day tourney. Games will be played if at all possible; no rain-out date has been set.

In addition to the games, a home run-hitting contest will be held after games conclude Saturday. The Powell High School cheer squad will assist during the event, which is open to people playing in the tourney as well as those who just want to take 10 swings for $5.

While the sluggers, both men and women, are aiming for the fences, a barbecue will be served buffet-style by the football team starting at 6 p.m. Pulled pork, smoke pulled chicken, ol’ field potatoes, baked beans, buns and dessert will be served. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids and seniors; tickets are available at the gate.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Stringer family and the Stringer Children College Fund. For more information, call 307-202-0126.
