CODY — Tyler Corrington has been traveling from rodeo to rodeo the week of the Fourth of July, and while he still doesn’t have any time off, the Hastings, Minn., saddle bronc rider left the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede with $8,714.

This is likely his biggest check from the week of rodeos known as “Cowboy Christmas.” He rode at Cody’s Stampede Park on the evening of the Fourth, scored 86 points on J Bar J Rodeo’s Smart Guy. He was quickly in and out of his riding gear and headed to the next one.

The big winner at the 95th anniversary of the Cody Stampede was Steven Peebles from Redmond, Ore., who scored 88 points on another horse from J Bar J, Smack Daddy at the last performance of the rodeo. He was third in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings last week and is hoping to move up with the $10,540 from here along with any other additional money.

Peebles, who spent some time with the Justin Sportsmedicine Team after getting kicked in the face in Oakley, Utah, also left Cody headed to his home state of Oregon to compete tomorrow. A black eye and six stitches in his cheek didn’t slow him down one bit.

“I didn’t know much about that horse,” Peebles said. “I just went out there and did my job and it worked out. I really needed this and can’t think of a better way to spend the Fourth.”

Action from the Fourth of July performance of the Cody Stampede was live streamed at The action has been archived so fans can go watch at their convenience. Plans for the 96th anniversary will begin soon so stay tuned to Codystampede on Facebook and Twitter or check the website for updates.
