13 Panthers named to All-Star teams

The Powell Panthers football team, which hasn’t lost a game since week 8 of the 2011 season, bested the rest of the 3A field yet again by placing the most players on the Wyoming Football Coaches All-State and All-Conference lists, and the Casper Star-Tribune’s Super 25 list.

“I was very proud overall of how well Powell was represented,” said head coach Jim Stringer.

Powell had three players — senior Hayden Cragoe, senior Garrett Lynch and junior Riley Stringer — named to the Super 25 list, which incorporates all classes.

Riley Stringer was named the Super 25 Defensive Player of the Year.

“We were all pleasantly surprised,” coach Stringer said.

Powell had nine players named to the 3A All-State team, which tied Douglas for most in 3A.

The Panthers placed 13 players on the 3A West All-Conference team, which included Cragoe, who was named the 3A West Player of the Year. Stringer was named the 3A West Coach of the Year.

Star Valley had 10 All-Conference players, which was second in the West. Douglas, which Powell beat 19-13 in the 3A state title game, had 11 players named to the 3A East All-Conference list.

Powell’s All-State players are seniors Hayden Cragoe, Cory Heny, Anthony Lujan, Garrett Lynch, Brendon Phister, Zach Thompson and Matthew Widdicombe, and juniors Carter Baxter and Riley Stringer.

The four Panthers who were named All-Conference but not All-State are seniors Garrett Michael and Dillon Ohman, and juniors Ty Herd and Kalei Smith.

“When you’re so senior-heavy as we were this year they take our seniors first and leave some of our talented juniors,” coach Stringer said. “I think they all deserved consideration for All-State.”
