Youth rodeo set for Saturday in Clark

An open pee-wee/junior rodeo for entrants up to age 18 is set for Saturday at Chad and Samantha Halstead’s Hurst Arena in Clark.

Events will begin at 11 a.m. with registration from 9:30-11 a.m. by telephone (307-250-5456) or in person. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the first three placers in all events and age categories, and winners in the junior and senior categories will receive cash awards, Samantha Halstead said. She and her husband are holding the event as a community service for Clark and surrounding areas.

Besides rodeo competition, there will be other attractions such as face-painting, a raffle for prizes and a balloon concession, as well as catering by Randol’s Southern Pit Barbecue from Meeteetse. Freemont Beverages-Pepsi of Powell will provide beverages for a small fee.

The gate admission fee for attendees older than 5 will be $5. Treasured Memories of Powell will photograph entrants and offer copies after the rodeo.

The arena is located at 12 Rodeo Drive behind the Clark Elementary School in Clark. There will be directional signs.

Competition entry fees are: Pee-wees 5 and younger, free; 6- to 9-year-old buckaroos, $3; junior division for those 10-13, $5; and senior division for those 14-18, $10. There will be a rodeo clown costume contest open to all comers, including the audience, and there is no entry fee.

“People can come dressed in their ‘best’ costumes,” said Halstead, with judging by the audience.

Events include Pee-wees: stickhorse races, boot races, bale head roping. Buckaroos: boot races, goat untying, barrel racing, pole bending, bale head roping. Juniors and seniors: goat tying, pole bending, flag races, barrel races, ribbon races.
