Final batch of honorees known

Spring sports programs for Powell High School held their end-of-the-year award ceremonies this past week. Members of the track, boys’ and girls’ soccer programs were recognized by their teammates for their effort in competition and in practices.

The Powell High School track team, fresh off a pair of team trophy performances at the state meet in Casper, handed out 12 awards. The most improved Panther track athletes were Mat Abraham and SarahJean O’Neill.

The Jim Miller Memorial Award was given to Drew Feller and Bailey Sanders. The Mitch Myrick Memorial Awards were bestowed upon Vince Sleep, Hayden Cragoe and Anissa Warner. The LA Kohnke Most Deserving Award went to Marshall McArthur and KaDee Harrison.

The outstanding state meet performers were Garrett Lynch, Kalei Smith and Tori Sleep. The Panther girls placed third in Class 3A this season. Powell’s boys placed fourth in a highly contested 3A title race at this year’s championship meet.

For girls’ soccer, six awards were handed out. Haley Wichman was named the attacker of the year for the Panther girls, who won their first state tournament game in school history. Carly Klein was named the defender of the year.

KaiLee Barrus was named the most improved by a vote of her teammates. Alyssa Hildebrand was named the most inspirational. Shelby Nicholson was named the team’s most valuable member. The Cheese Wheel award, given to the player demonstrating the dual qualities of toughness and hustle, went to Aimee Kawano.

For the Powell boys’ soccer team, Dewey Schwahn was named both the most valuable and the most inspirational player for the Panthers. Cory Elton was named the most improved team member.

The Panther boys wrapped up their season at the 3A state soccer tournament.
