Under 8

HMU-A, coached by Marcie Hobbs, finished the weekend of April 20 with a 0-1-1 record. The team drew its first game 5-5 in a high-scoring affair as Morgan Hobbs finished as the top scorer. The team lost to a counterpart Powell team by a 4-3 final. Morgan Hobbs connected for two of the team’s three goals while Elle Wilson added the last before heavy rain and wind prompted officials to whistle an early end to the contest.

HMU-C lost its first game 5-3 at the hands of Billings Micro 8A, but reported improvement in the passing and spacing elements of the game. Tristan Herd had two goals and Chance Franks had one. The second game did not go as well as Powell fell to a large Billings Micro 8C by an 8-0 count. “They were very skilled and a lot bigger than our kids,” said coach Jason Wardell. “I think the kids were intimidated before the game even started, but still played hard.”

Under 10

HMU-A lost its first game of the weekend, falling in a 7-6 shootout to Billings Micro 2. They rebounded for a 5-4 win over Billings Micro 6 in the late contest. Dalton Nelson had five goals between the two games, as did teammate Kobe Ostermiller. Hyrum Jeide tallied the team’s other goal.

HMU-B won 2-1 over Billings Micro 6 in its first game of the weekend. Colton Brewer and Justin Wardell produced the goals for Powell. The second game finished in a 1-1 draw as neither Heart Mountain B or Billings Micro 7 managed to produce an advantage. Garrett Morris had the lone Powell goal in the contest and also produced an impressive stint in net as goalkeeper to help preserve the tie result.

HMU-C defeated Laurel, Mont., by a 5-1 count in its first weekend game as Sam Bauer came up with a hat trick of three goals. Landon Sessions and Jaxton Braten each added a goal as Heart Mountain came just a late surrender of a goal away from posting a shutout. The team lost its second contest of the weekend 4-0 at the hands of Billings Micro 5. The Powell team trailed 1-0, but couldn’t match Billings’ depth over the latter half of the contest.

Under 12

The two Under 12 teams produced another successful weekend, combining for a 2-1-1 record. Both victories came by identical 2-0 counts as Jacob Herd and Rob Sessions combined for the four Powell goals for coach Kane Morris’ team. The other Powell Under-12 tied its first game 3-3 before losing by a 3-0 final score. No scoring information was available.

Under 14

Powell beat the snow and the cold to produce a 1-1 tie against Cody’s Yellowstone Fire club. Eli Briggs produced the only goal of the game for Heart Mountain United. In the second contest of the day, Powell picked up a 2-1 victory over Worland, improving to 2-1-1 on the season. Brekyn Herd and Shattuck Swenson scored the goals for Powell in the contest.
