The results of the sixth-annual John Colter shoot in Meeteetse were announced recently with Andy Lawrence capturing top honors by two points over runner-up Al Royal. Ethen Kolacny and Judy Lawrence were also within 10 points of the leader.

A field of 14 competitors took part in the competition at the Meeteetse Gun Club. Competitors came from Park County as well as Casper, Riverton, Lander, Shell, Worland and Billings, Mont.

Competitors were asked to take seven shots at paper targets of bottles at a distance of 25 yards and eight shots at buffalo targets at 100 yards. The targets were donated by the Big Horn Basin Muzzleloaders. Gong targets were placed at 40, 65, 100 and 125 yards, with the target at 65 yards hung to allow it to swing in the east-to-west breeze that was blowing.

The shoot was followed by a roast beef dinner at the Elk Horn Bar. Prizes went to the top seven shooters.

The final order of finish was:

1. Andy Lawrence 117, 2. Al Royal 115, 3. Ethen Kolacny 111, 4. Judy Lawrence 108, 5. Bill Morrison 87, 6. John Hart 86, 7. Alison Youngberg 82, 8. Ken Mitchell 78, 9. (tie) Bryan Youngberg and Dave Tyrrell 70, 11. Jim Hanchett 65, 12. Kim Lawrence 64, 13. Jim Clark 44, 14. Rich Sell 39.
