Greybull no match for Panthers

The second-ranked Powell Panthers combined an 8-1 performance on the mat with a host of forfeit victories to score a lopsided 67-6 dual victory over Greybull last week. The win kept the Panthers unbeaten this season in dual action.

Noah Wozney (106), Chance Karst (113), Dylan Rood (126), Andrew Feller (132) and Rowdy Gard all picked up forfeit wins as the Greybull Buffalo were unable to field a competitor at those divisions. Nic Urbach, the only Panther lightweight to actually get a match on the mat, ended it in the second period by fall.

The Panthers picked up three more victories by fall in the dual. Anthony Lujan pressed his opponent to the mat in the first period of his 152-pound match. Mike Mundy, back from injury earlier in the week, scored a first-period fall at 170 pounds. Zach Thompson, wrestling up at 220 pounds, was also a first-period winner by fall.

Jacob Davis (145) scored a major decision victory for the Panthers with a 10-1 victory in his match against Greybull’s Cole Hill. Matt Widdicome (138) picked up an 8-3 win in his match. Tyler Patterson (182) was a 6-2 victory and Spencer Shultz (195) was a 6-3 winner.

The Panthers’ only loss of the night came at 160 pounds as Jared Wantulok was plugged in to Powell’s varsity lineup, but found himself pinned in the second period by state-ranked opponent Luke Zeller.

The Panthers return to the wrestling mats tonight (Thursday) with a head-to-head showdown against No. 4 Worland.
