Sometimes Wyoming’s worst conditions bring out the best in the people who live here.

An economic downturn is a good time to reaffirm efforts to diversify Wyoming’s economy; it is not the time to pull back on economic development efforts.

If you saw a dog locked inside a vehicle on a hot August day, you’d likely try to free the helpless animal or call the police. But what about pets left outside for too long in December’s subzero temperatures?

An October release of tons of fish-killing silt from behind the Willwood Dam and into the Shoshone River prompted a fairly predictable response: shock and a public outcry, followed by public meetings clarifying the issue and, now, a promise of a government study to further examine the situation.

Christmas and the holiday season are upon us, lighting an otherwise dreary time of year with holiday cheer.

Tomorrow marks the 75th anniversary of “a date which will live in infamy.” President Franklin Delano Roosevelt made the historic declaration following Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

As a Park County committee prepares to make some recommendations about how some of the area’s public lands should be managed, it might seem like a good time to lay out some ideas for them to follow.

Thanks to the Powell Rotary Club, Santa again arrived downtown by helicopter, rekindling a tradition of his arrival the day after Thanksgiving.

During Sample the Season last week, scores of residents went from store to store, enjoying free food and drinks from local businesses. With Christmas lights aglow, festive music in the air and shoppers crowding the sidewalks, the bustling downtown scene was reminiscent of a holiday film.

It’s something of a time-honored tradition to go around the Thanksgiving table and ask everyone to share something they’re thankful for. But why stop here? Why not try to share something you’re thankful for as you go around the community?
