Mildred Bott Grammens died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 80.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1931, to George and Celistine Bott in Billings.

Mildred attended school in Custer and Belfry, where she graduated from high school in 1949. She attended Billings Business College and then worked in several businesses in downtown Billings. Her family moved back to Custer during that time, where she met Morris Grammens. They were married on Feb. 23, 1952, in Pompeys Pillar.

They made their first home in Big Horn, where Morris farmed in partnership with his brother Albert. Three children, Donald, Brenda and Derek, were born to the marriage. In 1965, the family moved to Powell, where they farmed on Heart Mountain. In 1999, Mildred moved to Billings, so she could be closer to Morris, who resided in Western Manor Nursing Home. Morris passed in 2003 and Mildred continued to live in Billings until her passing.

Mildred was a stay-at-home mom who helped on the farm and cared for her family. She liked to sew for herself and children, enjoyed ceramics and crossword puzzles. She loved the color red, which was evident throughout her home.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; five brothers-in-law; many cousins and a niece.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Bennett of Redwood City, Calif.; two sons, Donald (Rose) of Washington state and Derek of Wyoming; one daughter, Brenda (Ken) Vecchio of Colorado; and two grandchildren, Brian Vecchio and Michael Grammens; and numerous nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.

Vigil services took place Sunday, Aug. 5, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings. Funeral Mass was held Monday, Aug. 6, at St. Pius Church, with interment in Mountview Cemetery in Billings.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Home, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, MT 59102.
