Helen Ramirez, 74, of Powell died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Helen was born in Powell on March 24, 1938 to Valentino and Antonia Gonzales. Helen married her lifelong companion Joe A. Ramirez on Aug. 27, 1956.

This union brought five children, 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Over the years, Helen worked various jobs in the Basin. Most of these revolved around the hospitality industry. Helen enjoyed being a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, where she served as an officer for several years. She also enjoyed sharing her cooking talents on Wednesday nights with the Eagles club.

Helen rarely missed dart nights and loved pinochle with her friends. Dancing with her husband, Joe, was another highlight for her. Without question, Helen’s biggest love was her family. Cooking, cleaning, leading, guiding all are roles of a mother and grandmother, and are but a few of the many Helen excelled at. Her love of Christ was displayed daily by the love and affection she showed others.

Helen is survived by her husband, Joe; brothers Pete (Christina) of Pasco, Wash., Max (Julie) of Pasco, Wash., children Mary Ann Ramirez of Powell, Linda Hansel of Langdon, N.D., Donna Dominguez of Dayton, Tony Ramirez of Spearfish, S.D., and Amy (Mike) Birdsley of Powell.

A vigil service will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday. Both services take place at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell.

Thompson Funeral Home assisted the family and condolences may be sent to the family at www.thompsonfuneral.net or P.O. Box 807, Powell, WY 82435.
