(July 19, 1955 - May 30, 2012)

Richard “Rick” Anthony Gutierrez, 56, died unexpectedly on May 30, 2012 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings with family by his side.

Rick was born July 19, 1955 to Roy and Connie Gutierrez in Powell. Rick grew up in Powell and graduated from Powell High School in 1974.

After high school, Rick worked as a salesman for 15 years at Pepsi and then at Sweetheart. For the next 16 years, Rick worked as a machinist at Weatherford in Powell until they closed their doors in 2010. Most recently he was employed by Wyoming Completion Technologies and worked part time as a bartender at the Powell Eagles, where he was also a member. Along with the Eagles, Rick was also a member of the Powell Elks, JC’s and Oddfellows.

On Jan. 30, 1981, Rick married the love of his life, Laura Anderson. Rick and Laura were blessed with three amazing children: Chad, Ryan, and Amber. Rick was extremely proud of his family and loved spending time with them. Just recently Rick became a proud grandfather to granddaughter Hadley Paige Gutierrez and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with her.

Rick was known by many and loved by many as well. His smile was infectious and his humor could fill a room with laughter in a matter of minutes. His story telling and tall tales will be greatly missed. Rick enjoyed the outdoors and spent a majority of his weekends hunting, fishing, or camping with friends or family. When not enjoying the outdoors, Rick kept himself busy coaching women’s softball, umpiring, or spending time with his family. He was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan and just recently met John Kuhn and Bryan Bulaga.

Rick was best known for drumming in local bands. By the age of 16, Rick was a professional drummer with the band Western Four until they disbanded in 1981. Most recently Rick played with the Del Cannon Band.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Connie Gutierrez along with an infant baby brother.

Rick is survived by his wife of 31 years, Laura Gutierrez; children Chad (Mandy) Gutierrez of Powell, Ryan Gutierrez of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Amber Gutierrez of Powell; granddaughter Hadley Gutierrez of Powell; sister Delia Gutierrez of Denver; and many extended family members.

Funeral services were Monday, June 4 at the Methodist Church. A celebration of life followed at the Powell Eagles.
