Georginia Smith, 65, of Cody, died at her home on Saturday, May 12, 2012.

God answered Georginia’s prayer to go to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. During her final days at her home, she frequently voiced her desire to be rid of her painful earthly body and to receive her new pain-free heavenly body.

Georginia was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, Canada, as the only child of James and Lillian Corrigan. After growing up on a farm and being educated in the Carlyle area, she went to work for Marathon Oil Company and fell in love with a young engineer who also worked there.

Georginia and Dave Smith were married on Jan. 21, 1972. In 1973 they transferred to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, and two years later to Cody. Because she loved Cody, she took the job as Welcome Wagon hostess, where she worked for 25 years. She was one of Cody’s biggest advocates enthusiastically welcoming newcomers, while faithfully supporting her business sponsors.

Dave and Georginia raised three children.

Georginia’s primary desire was witnessing for Christ. She equipped herself by attending and opening her home to as many Bible study groups as possible. Georginia joined Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) 15 years ago and strongly encouraged all her friends and acquaintances to attend. She attended Cody Bible Church, while continuing her spiritual growth involvement in as many Bible studies as she could. As a result of her spiritual passion and concern that all her family, friends, and acquaintances know Jesus and his plan of salvation, she mentored many in their spiritual walks.

Georginia’s gift of hospitality was evident as she readily opened her home to strangers who couldn’t find a motel room in Cody. Thus, the contact list grew and many became instant friends.

Survivors include her daughter Lorie (Roland) Rojas of San Antonio, Texas; son Vince of Austin, Texas; and son Spencer (Megan) of Cody; and grandchildren Olivia and Liliana, RJ and Emilia.

Memorial donations can be made to the Cody Bible Church Music Ministry or Ladies Bible Study: 2137 Cougar Ave., Cody, WY 82414.

A funeral service celebrating Georginia’s life will be held on Saturday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wynona Thompson Auditorium with Rev. Levi Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with lunch to follow at Cody Bible Church.
