Barbara Ann Eskew Fisher

Barbara Ann Eskew Fisher died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the Powell Valley Care Center in Powell. An avid genealogist, she lived 82 years, 4 months and 28 days.

She was born to Mildred (Mickey) and Robert Eskew, in Waco, Texas, on Dec. 15, 1929.

A graduate of Baylor University, Barbara taught physical education in Texas, New York and Montana. Quite active in Methodist youth work and the Girl Scouts of  America, she continued her service career as the executive director of Growth Thru Art in Billings from 1981-1988. 

In 1988, she followed her mother’s path and launched into a career as a  professional entertainer. Barbara, also known as “BarbWire, that sharp woman  with many fine points,” joined her companion, Glenda Bell, in creating The Whole Shebang.

For 17 years, the duo entertained nationwide as BarbWire and Calamity Jane. In 2004 after 2,423 shows nationwide, The Whole Shebang retired, moving from Windsor, Colo., to Powell. In July 2008, Barbara entered the Alzheimer’s unit of Powell Valley Care Center, where she received  excellent, loving care.

Known for her quick wit, strong work ethic and creative skills, Barbara leaves her companion, Glenda Bell; a daughter Patricia (Roger) Anderson of  Cabot, Ark.; two grandsons, Patrick and Sawyer Anderson; a niece, Tina (Mark) Disorbio of Evergreen, Colo.; nephew, Christopher (Rahnella) Adsit of  Eugene, Ore., and nephew Michael (Toom) Adsit of Thailand; several great and grand nieces and nephews, plus many friends nationwide whose lives she enriched.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Eskew Jr. and sister Patricia Adsit.

Cremation has taken place. She requested that her ashes be scattered in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone joining Glenda’s dad, Bud Wirt, who Barbara dearly loved.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
