Wayne Thomas Behning, 68, of Federal Heights, Colo., died on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at his home.

He was born on March 9, 1943 in Alpena, Mich., to Alfred Behning and Margaret Pernie.

Wayne graduated from Alpena High School in 1961. He grew up hunting, fishing and was known as one of Michigan’s most promising Major League Baseball prospects in the 1960s. Wayne moved his family to Colorado in 1974.

Wayne lived in Powell for a few years and worked at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody.

Wayne took great pleasure in helping people, coaching his sons in baseball and spending time with his family. He made many friends through his generosity and infectious sense of humor.

Wayne is survived by his children, Greg Behning of Federal Heights, Suzette (Marc) Porter of Malad, Idaho, and Travis (Cherie Westbrook) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; brother Louis (Shirley) Behning of Ossineke, Mich.; sister, Mildred Hartman of Southfield, Mich., and five grandchildren, Trevor, Lane, Kylie, Ama and Brooke.

He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Marilyn Crevier.

Friends and family remembered Wayne at a memorial service on Friday, Dec. 30 in Colorado. Wayne’s ashes will be kept with his eldest son, Greg.
