Gary C. Burgener died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas. He was 75.

Gary was born Oct. 23, 1936 in Powell, the son of Carl M. and Hazel (DeVoss) Burgener. He was raised and educated in Powell. 

He married Kay D. Bayne on Sept. 29, 1967. He and Kay resided in Douglas since 1989 in order to be closer to his family whom he cherished. 

He farmed with his father and ranched in Wyoming and Montana for most of his adult life. Gary was a cowboy at heart; his passion was rodeo and any activities that involved horses. In his later years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator in Wyoming and North Dakota until he was forced to retire due to an accident on the job that caused a serious spinal cord injury.  Up until his death, he continued on with life with a positive attitude, and embraced any occasion that involved family and most of all, grand and great-grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife, Kay, of Douglas; children, Craig M. Burgener of Chandler, Ariz., Terry of California, Tammy of California, Corinne A. (Jim) Miller of Casper, Tammie Kay (Danny) Cowherd of Casper, Stephanie (Reo) Underwood of Douglas, and Gary C. (Janelle) Burgener Jr. of Douglas; sisters, Greta Grosdidier of Mitchell, S.D., Barbara (Les) Cloniger of Powell, and Debbie (Dennis) Havig of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Carissa A. Watson, Alicia K. Madia, Andrea E. Hall, Craig Michael Burgener, Emily Burgener, Ryan Underwood, Alan Burke, Tanner Burgener, Reed Burgener, and Dalton Burgener; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn Sheppard.

A funeral service for Gary will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel in Douglas with Pastor Fred Dyer of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas is in charge of the arrangements.
